BBBEE current state assessment incorporating scorecard calculation and people, process and technology assessments
We assist our clients collate data as input to the BBBEE scorecard calculation. As we go through this process, we engage with our clients to ensure they understand the principles of BBBEE. This process forms the foundation of any BBBEE intervention. The scorecard forms the basis for understanding a company’s existing level of BBBEE compliance and for an assessment into why they may have succeeded in certain compliance criteria, and not in others.
This process also enables our clients to develop an understanding of the principles of BBBEE. It is imperative for companies to understand these basic principles in order to collate data for future scorecards, and for identifying opportunities for increased and sustained compliance.
Preparation for the verification of BBBEE scorecards
Mpowered Business Solutions understand the verification audit methodology which rating agencies are required to adhere to for all scorecard verification processes. As a rating agency performs an audit function, we are able to assist our clients prepare for the audit process.
This includes collating all supporting data required by a rating agency during the verification process. We assist our clients with all the various calculations, and on documenting the background information on how the calculations were performed. We obtain supplier BBBEE scorecards and provide guidelines on audit trails that the rating agency will access.
The rating agency is able to perform the verification process far quicker, with limited effort for our clients. The process is therefore simplified and fast tracked. In many instances, we are able to negotiate a discount on the cost of a verification on the basis that much of the work has been completed prior to the rating agency commencing with the audit process.
All client scorecards are input into either our web-based or desk-top BBBEE application which can be used by our clients to collate scorecard information for all subsequent scorecards.
BBBEE strategy formulation
Mpowered Business Solutions uses the analysis of the current state assessment as a foundation for the development of a BBBEE strategy. Formulating a BBBEE strategy requires our team to develop a detailed understanding of our client’s operating environment.
Initiatives for increased and sustainable compliance are identified through a process of engagement with our client’s management teams. Each initiative is assessed in terms of the practicality and feasibility, as well as the impact on the scorecard, and on the company. Alignment with existing business strategy is always a pre-requisite.
The strategy process results in establishing compliance targets on each scorecard element. Each target is based on the practicality and feasibility assessment. This provides our client with assurance that their targets are achievable given their business environment.

Incorporated within the BBBEE strategy are the scorecard targets and a detailed plan on how these targets will be achieved. We operate on the principle that our clients must understand exactly what the initiative is that will drive the achievement of a target, who will implement it, in what time frame, the impact on the business and the level of BBBEE compliance and the cost associated with the implementation of an initiative.

Our team of consultants calculate all client scorecards using one of our applications. Client users are trained on how to use the system such that they can calculate all subsequent scorecards with limited or no third party support.
